A donabe is the Japanese pot used to cook and serve nabemono, the shared hot-pot dishes such as shabu-shabu, sukiyaki or simmered vegetables and tofu. It goes from the stove to the middle of the table, so everyone can help themselves while the food stays warm.
Our donabe range
- Ceramic donabe (Seifa, Utaki), available in three colors, for hot pot and slow simmering.
- Donabe with steamer (Nara, Tenkawa): a ceramic pot with a steaming tier for dumplings, vegetables or fish. The Nara model comes in black or white and is suitable for microwave, oven, ceramic hob and gas.
- Donabe Kōtoku-in in aluminum alloy with a bamboo steamer, in four sizes from 20 to 32 cm wide.
- Earthenware pots in several sizes for everyday soups and stews.
Each product page lists its material, sizes and compatible heat sources, so you can pick the right pot for your kitchen.
Caring for a clay donabe
Let the pot cool down before washing it, avoid sudden changes of temperature and make sure it is completely dry before storing it.
